A man was yesterday fined for having brownies containing marijuana inside his home.
Police went to Whitfield Braynen Jr.’s home in Coral Harbour on New Year’s Day.
On searching his bedroom, officers found marijuana in a box containing over $200 in mixed currency.
Braynen told the officers that he was a cook and he had bought the marijuana to smoke and to make brownies for his friends.
The officers found some brownies in the kitchen, the court heard. The drugs weighed eight pounds, the prosecutor said.
Braynen pleaded guilty to drug possession with intent to supply at his arraignment before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis.
In mitigation, attorney Bjorn Ferguson said that marijuana was no longer considered a schedule one drug. He said the weight provided by the prosecutor was not an accurate reflection of the amount of drugs as it was mostly brownies.
Ferguson said Braynen also worked as a contractor and carpenter.
Rolle-Davis said it was clear that Braynen had the intention to distribute. As a result, he fined him $8,000 or one year in prison.
