A man found with a fake Bahamian driver’s license paid a $300 fine on Friday to avoid serving one month in prison.
Jonathan Wells pleaded guilty to possession of a forged document at his arraignment before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.
Wells presented the bogus license to a clerk at the Road Traffic Department on January 20, the court heard.
But a system check revealed that the license had not been issued by the department.
As a result, staff called the police who arrested Wells for possession of a forged document.
In mitigation, attorney Glenda Roker said that Wells thought the license was authentic as he got it from someone he trusted.
She asked the court to consider a conditional discharge, so Wells could keep a clean criminal record.
McKinney fined Wells, which means a conviction was recorded.
