Bahamian trio, Side FC leads UPSL

With eight games into the United States Premier Soccer League Division II, Side 92 Football Club (FC) – that has Bahamian soccer players Perez ‘Perry’ Brooks, Marcel Joseph and Valin Bodie – has not lost or draw in their regular season play.

Playing in the first year, Side FC, as they are called, have controlled the league as they look to move up into the Division I at the end of the season. They play in the Central Conference in the North Division in the semi-professional league. The club leads the league with 24 points. Second behind them is Mansfield Revolution Soccer Club with 21 points with a 7-1-1 win/draw/loss record. In third place is Rayados Irving FC as they have 21 points to sport a 6-3-0 record.

“There isn’t any doubt that we will finish first in the league. We have one of the best teams in the league. The league is not too competitive because of the players we have who played in professional leagues and players who played at the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division I level. We also have some of the younger players from our younger team,” Brooks said.

Brooks, who plays the center back position, said that he still have respect for the other teams in the league. The defense line and with Bodie, the goalkeeper, did a very good job as they have only allowed a league-low three goals in eight games. The closest team in goals allowed is Rayados with 17.

Joseph, who plays forward made his presence known as he was able to score five goals and have four assists so far on the season. His five goals are a fraction of the league-leading 57 goals that his side has scored in just eight games – a whopping 7-plus goals a game.

Indeed, Side FC is dominating the league on both the attacking and defending fronts of the ball as they have a 54-goal difference. Rayados is the closest with a goal difference of 10.

Side FC’s last game was a 1-0 victory on December 19 against Foro 360 Reserves. They won that game 1-0. Next up for them is their 2021 season home opener against Bell County FC at Case Community tomorrow at 5 p.m. The last time the two teams faced each other, Side FC dominated them 18-0 on December 5, 2020. In that game Joseph had two goals (76’, 87’) and one assist (90’).

They were scheduled to play Azul Premier FC last Sunday, but that game was postponed due to the inclement weather.

Their final game of the season is set for Sunday, February 21.
