Bahama Blu donates kits for Team Bahamas

Bahama Blu Water has stepped up and donated training kits to The Bahamas’ Senior Men’s National Cricket Team as they prepare for an international tournament, July 17-23, 2021, in Toronto, Canada.

The presentation was made at the Bahama Blu Water plant on Bismark Road at the Airport Industrial Park yesterday. On hand to receive the kits were the president of the Bahamas Cricket Association (BCA) Greg Taylor Sr. and opening batsman Marc Taylor.

“At this time, Bahama Blu is extremely happy to have been given the opportunity to partner with the BCA in an effort to further aid in the development of the country’s national sport. We are all aware of the impact that the last 12 months would have had on the lives of many Bahamians. It is times like these that persons often look for ways to regain a sense of normalcy and togetherness. We at Bahama Blu feel that sports is one of those mediums that can serve exactly that purpose, and it is for that reason that we are elated to have had been a part of this,” a Bahama Blu spokesperson stated.

Taylor Sr. expressed his gratitude for the training kits.

“We are very grateful to Bahama Blu for coming on board with us as it takes some of the burden off of us. There was not much cricket last year so as far as fundraising and different things is concerned, it was non-existent. Bahama Blu came on board. They promised us that they would do it and they came through for us,” Taylor Sr. said.

The tournament, the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier, is a qualifier for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 Word Cup. The top two teams will progress to one of two global qualifiers. The tournament was originally set for August 2020 but it was postponed due to the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Bahamas is set to take part in the tournament along with Argentina, Belize, Bermuda, Canada, the Cayman Islands, Panama and the United States of America.

The Bahamian team was training from February 2020 but ceased training when the pandemic hit. According to Taylor Sr., they are looking to resume training next week. He stressed the importance of this tournament as they look to finish in one of the top two positions. Taylor Sr.’s son Marc echoed the same sentiments. He knows how little time the team has to prepare for a tournament of this magnitude.

“It is January and if you look at it, July is not far away. I hope that the guys are in some form or shape so that we can start at a certain level. That way we do not have to do too much work to get back to where we were last year when we stopped training. Hopefully everything goes as planned and we do not have any setbacks to make us not be ready for July,” he said.

Last year, left-handed batsman Marc Taylor was entered in the Caribbean Premier T20 League Draft but was not drafted. Individually, he knows that he has to put his best foot forward as he is the opening batsman for the team and will also be under the microscope in this tournament as he looks to raise his draft stock.

Bahama Blu Water is looking to continue its support of Team Bahamas and to continue to promote sports in The Bahamas.
