Jamaal Rolle one of many artists who will participate in Bel Canto & Friends’ Unsung Heroes silent auction

World-renowned artist Jamaal Rolle who goes by the moniker “The Celebrity Artist” will participate in a multi-genre show “Discovering Our Unsung Heroes” – celebrating Bahamian heroes who have been under-appreciated.

Rolle’s latest collaboration which takes place today is with Bel Canto & Friends, a group of Bahamian artists from several different genres – choirs, poetry writers, drama folk – who have come together in a unique attempt to begin to define what Bahamians expect of their heroes and who they are.

They will all pay homage to unsung heroes, in particular, looking at Bahamians who were raised by strong women who provided great examples of character and community spirit. All of the heroes highlighted are said to have some attributes of the Bahamian Grammy.

They are endeavoring to show the viewing audience how everyone has a part to play in making The Bahamas a better place to live, since there is a hero in everyone.

For many people, a hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. On this basis, for most Bahamians, if you dig deep, their hero is the strict, no-nonsense yet kind, courageous, loving and caring, nurturing and fun-loving, resilient and resourceful, dedicated and unselfish Grammy figure.

Rolle has created a special portrait to honor Grammy and this portrait will be available for purchase at an online silent auction held on Facebook, October 10-15, at https://ift.tt/39VJRpN.

Rolle has created portraits for some of the world’s most recognizable and influential figures in history in the fields of sports, entertainment, music, activism, education, and government.

His long list of subjects include Prince Harry; entertainment mogul Oprah Winfrey; the first Black Academy Award winner and United States Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, Sir Sidney Poitier; Prime Ministers of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas; Golden Globe winner Johnny Depp; NBA legends Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Michael Jordan, Lebron James, and Dwyane Wade; Sean “Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, Puffy, Diddy, Love” Combs; American singer-songwriters Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood; NFL champion and TV host Michael Strahan; and American Civil Rights activist Reverend Al Sharpton, to name a few.

Rolle’s artistic portrait portfolio has been featured in international media globally from Times Magazine, Washington Post, BBC News, People’s Magazine, Huffington Post and CBS News. He is probably best known locally for his daily political and social commentary cartoon in the Tribune newspaper.
