Thompson says he will run for FNM leader

East Grand Bahama MP Kwasi Thompson announced today that he will run for leader of the Free National Movement.

“I have practiced as an attorney for 23 years. I have served as head deacon at Calvary Temple Assemblies of God which I have attended for over 40 years,” Thompson said in a statement.

“I am blessed to have been married to Tamicka Thompson for 21 years with four beautiful daughters.

“I have had the opportunity to serve the FNM as the president of the Torchbearers, as a member of Parliament, as deputy speaker of the House of Assembly, as a senator and cabinet minister.

“It was an honor to serve with Dr. Hubert Minnis. I honor this great leader of our party and recognize his service to our party and to our nation.

“It is on his shoulders I stand with gratitude. He has decided not to offer himself for election as leader.

“After prayerful consideration and consultation with my family, I will offer myself as a candidate for leader of the Free National Movement. I ask for God’s blessings and guidance. I pray God’s eternal blessings on our Bahamas.”

The FNM will hold a one-day convention next month to elect a new leader following its defeat at the polls on September 16.

Former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis has said that he will not run for leader.

Central Grand Bahama MP Iram Lewis is also running for leader.
