Treasure and measure each new day

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. – Ephesians 4:31

Because of the sinfulness, waywardness, disobedience and rebellion of mankind, God sent His son in human form for the redemption of mankind by way of death on the cross. What a powerful expedition for one third of the Godhead to live and become involved with the daily activities of the fallen from grace!

Oh, how God loves us! And if only one memory verse was learnt as children in Sunday or Sabbath school, it was John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

How can we run away from all that is happening not only here, but worldwide, because of the sudden change of lifestyle and complete separation from the usual? In order to survive, we must take to the saying – go with the flow.

But in spite of tragedies, loss of lives, separation from family and loved ones and hardships involved in coping, we are still far removed from words of wisdom for survival as is outlined in our text today – let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.

Why are many of us are still holding on to grudges that are old as the hills? Why are we so miserable, so unpleasant, so ungrateful, so demanding but have nothing to bring to the table of solution? Clueless, wanting justice without justification and yearning but no burning. Why?

The book of Ephesians written to the Church at Ephesus, today known as Kusadasi, has only six chapters and is written to explain how the church comes to full spiritual maturity in Christ. The first three chapters describe the good news of what God has done. “And you hath He quickened who were dead in trespasses and sins; wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience. But God who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace are ye saved).”

The last three chapters give instructions on living in this present world. Some say the Bible is as an acronym for Biblical Instructions Before Leaving Earth. The apostle begins in chapter four, from which our text is deduced, by referring to himself as the prisoner of the Lord: And I beseech you that you walk worthy of the vocation wherewith you are called, with all lowliness and meekness, and longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavoring to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace.

If we are followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, why is there is so much competition among some of us as to who is the greatest? Why do so many have a foul spirit of jealousy and contempt for that which is good? Contempt for our brothers and sisters, and are always angry, rowing and fussing and cussing?

It behooves us as children of God in times like these to be at our very best, in season and out of season, knowing that we are the light of the world and we must send the light into every nook and cranny.

Every day of our lives is a new day, a direct gift from the father above, and we must not only measure it but treasure it.
