Bahamian collegiate soccer player Tate Cuffy is making headlines.
The Dodge City Community College Conquistadors student-athlete was named as the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) player of the week for the eight week of the season after a strong performance on the pitch.
The freshman midfielder recorded the program’s first hat trick since 2016, scoring all three of her team’s goals in a 3-0 shutout win for the Conquistadors over the Neosho County Community College Panthers on the road on Saturday.
It was the second time this season that Dodge City Community College women’s soccer team produced a conference player of the week and this time it was the Bahamian who achieved the honor.
Cuffy connected on the three goals from 20, 25, and 27 yards out in the match, scoring in the first half and then adding second-half goals in the 44th and 73rd minutes of the game. Conquistadors’ goalkeeper Vickie Foster recorded her second shutout of the season, recording a pair of saves in the win.
On the season, Cuffy has four goals on 10 shots – seven shots on goal. She has started all nine of the games she has played in, has produced four goals and eight points and has a .400 shot percentage and a .700 shot on goal percentage.
Cuffy played a season-high 90 minutes against Barton Community College on September 15 and matched that output in their following game, against Butler Community College, on September 18. The Conquistadors have a 2-8 win/loss record on the season, but have won two of their last four games after starting the season with six straight losses.
The Conquistadors compete out of the KJCCC in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). They will host Barton Community College on Saturday October 16 at Memorial Stadium in Dodge City, Kansas. That game will get underway at 5 p.m.
Meanwhile, Tevin Lewis and the Mount Allison University Mounties have struggled as they are winless through eight games in their season. The Mounties compete in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) out of Sackville, New Brunswick in Eastern Canada.
Lewis, a third-year midfielder, has started eight of eight games and has three goals and three points on the season. He has 13 shots, seven shots on goal, a .231 shot percentage and a .538 shot on goal percentage. He has converted on his only penalty kick opportunity.
Lewis is having his best season in his collegiate career. Prior to this year, he had just one goal which came against the University of New Brunswick Reds during the 2019-2020 season.
The Mounties will host the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) Panthers at Alumni Field on Mount Allison’s campus in AUS men’s soccer action on Saturday, October 16. That game will get underway at 2:15 p.m., and the Mounties will look to pick up their first win of the season.
