Queen’s College’s ‘I Did It’ campaign promotes vaccinations as a means to returning to full campus life

Queen’s College (QC) utilizes its platform to emphasize vaccination education for the health of its faculty and students as well as the wider community with their “I Did It” campaign that seeks to promote vaccinations as a means of returning to full campus life in the shortest time possible.

Reverend Henry Knowles, QC principal, said the school has benefitted from the medical guidance and support provided by Doctors Hospital and Dr. Robin Roberts which enabled the institution to prepare a series of activities fostering student and parent vaccination education, as well as that of the wider community.

Knowles is also the spokesperson for the campaign along with Tatum Munroe, campus nurse, and Devin Cuffy-Bethel, head girl.

“Let’s get going, Bahamas,” said Knowles in a press release. “Let’s get our communities back to normal and our children back to school safely and return to celebratory events – Bahamian style! Queen’s College is ready to lead the way. We believe in making a difference. Get vaccinated, Bahamas! Join in to say, I did it.”

The school also recently facilitated a virtual “Town Hall Q and A”, during which people were able to avail themselves of the medical expertise from guest panelists regarding COVID-19 vaccinations in the persons of Dr. Nikkiah Forbes, infectious disease specialist; Dr. Jerome Lightbourne, president, Bahamas Pediatric Association; Dr. Wilnaye Bain, family medicine resident; Dr. Williamson Gustave, assistant professor of biology, University of The Bahamas; and Munroe. Lindsey Cancino, Rotary Clubs of The Bahamas, provided information on the process of receiving COVID-19 vaccinations.

Anti-vax and pro-vax positions were debated on Friday in an on-campus student debate event.

The school has also joined forces with “Bahamas Native Show” to highlight the importance of getting vaccinated against COVID-19 to return to local festivals and school life. QC students are featured in an advertisement on the show, promoting vaccination education, which will be aired on ZNS on Thursday, October 28.
