The prestigious White Sands Bahamas NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Invitational officially opened on Wednesday evening with a welcome reception for the participating women’s teams at the Ocean Club Golf Course.
The competition, which officially begins on Friday, will feature some of the top collegiate golf teams in the United States. It returns to the Ocean Club Golf Course at Atlantis Paradise Island with 19 teams, led by the host schools the University of Miami (UM) and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. UM hosts the women’s tournament and Arkansas-Little Rock hosts the men’s tournament.
The invitational features 54 holes of women’s competition followed by 54 holes of men’s competition at the acclaimed Ocean Club Golf Course. It began with practice rounds for seven women’s teams on Wednesday. Soon after, on October 27, 12 men’s teams will convene to start their tournament week with practice rounds.
Speaking at the welcome reception was Deputy Director General of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, Latia Duncombe and University of Miami Women’s Golf Head Coach Patti Rizzo. The coaches of the various women’s teams also got an opportunity to show off their skills on the golf course, each getting a chance to putt a ball.
Competing in the women’s tournament are host the University of Miami, Campbell University, Florida International University (FIU), the University of Iowa, Mercer University, the University of Nebraska and Northern Illinois University.
The men’s teams that are competing are host school University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Bowling Green State University, East Tennessee State University, Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), Jacksonville University, Lamar University, Lipscomb University, the University of Michigan, the University of Mississippi, the University of San Francisco and the University of South Florida (USF).
The women’s tournament will be held from Friday to Sunday with the presentation of awards for individual and team champions being held on Sunday.
The men’s practice rounds are scheduled for Wednesday, October 27 at the Ocean Club Golf Course and a team reception will follow. A college-am event is set for Thursday, October 28 starting at 8:30 a.m. The men’s tournament will run from Friday, October 29 to Sunday, October 31, with the presentation of awards for individual and team champions to be held on Sunday, October 31.
