Balearia Caribbean noted in a recent statement that it will resume ferry service with seating capacity reduced by 40 percent, sailing to Bimini three times per week beginning February 10, and to Grand Bahama once per week beginning February 11.
The company, which is partnered with Resorts World Bimini, stated it is opening passenger service with the upcoming Valentine’s Day weekend in mind.
With Florida still topping COVID-19 numbers in the United States, Balearia said it is taking passenger safety seriously and has received a COVID-19 “safe” certification from Bureau Veritas. The company is “a world leader in testing, inspection and certification”, according to Veritas’ website, which explains that it is at the forefront of tackling challenges associated with health and safety, environmental protection and social responsibility.
“This makes Balearia the first shipping company in operation to have a Global Safe Site COVID-19 certificate,” Balearia noted.
“Other notable measures include temperature scanning for each passenger before boarding and easy access to sanitizer dispensers in the terminals, as well as aboard the vessel.
“Every staff member and passenger will have to wear a face mask/covering throughout the whole travel process. The company has reduced the capacity of the vessel by 40 percent and passengers will be required to practice social distancing. Plexiglass dividers have been added on every seat and in common areas.”
The company stated it continues to work closely with the United States and Bahamas governments on all of the latest travel guidelines.
On January 26, the United States began requiring anyone coming through its borders to present a negative COVID-19 test no more than three days old.
Resorts World Bimini reopened its doors at the end of December.
Balearia stated it is beginning its sailing in phases and will begin to increase its sailings to Grand Bahama from one day to two beginning February 28, adding it hopes to increase sailing to both islands by March.
