Atlantis announced in a statement yesterday that more of its employees will be returning to work when it reopens The Royal to guests on March 11. The company’s President and Managing Director Audrey Oswell explained that increasing demand for an Atlantis vacation guided the decision to open the towers.
Oswell, in the company’s statement, credited Atlantis’ on-campus COVID-19 protocols for the increase in bookings, as well as the urge to travel that exists following months of lockdowns and restrictions because of the pandemic.
“As a result of the comprehensive and effective health and safety protocols at Atlantis, we see even more pent-up demand from our guests to return to The Bahamas, which supported our decision to reopen guestroom operations at The Royal,” she said.
According to the statement, those team members who will be returning to work at The Royal will have to test negative and continue to follow Atlantis’ health and safety protocols that guard against COVID-19 transmission.
“We are delighted to welcome back additional team members to Atlantis and showcase the newly renovated Royal east tower guestrooms to our guests,” said Oswell.
With the reopening of The Royal in March, Atlantis will now receive guests at that hotel, The Cove and Harbourside Resort.
The Cove reopened this month with an offering that included a posh $150,000 package with private jet service to New Providence, a day trip to Kamalame Cay, off the mainland of Andros, by seaplane and an eight-course dinner by Michelin Star Chef José Andrés’ at his restaurant, Fish.
Minister of Tourism and Aviation Dionisio D’Aguilar told Guardian Business yesterday that a spike in tourism arrivals was expected to occur for spring break and the Easter season.
“When you have spring break or when you have Easter, when you have these kinds of holidays, there are little bumps,” he said. “They’re going to cause an increase in visitors.”
D’Aguilar said he expects and hopes that this trend of growing tourist numbers continues further into 2021.
Sandals intends to open its Emerald Bay property on Exuma in two days and its Royal Bahamian property in Nassau next month.
