The distribution of the AstraZeneca vaccine could begin as early as next week, Minister of Health Renward Wells announced today.
He told reporters outside Cabinet that the first batch of AstraZeneca vaccine should be in The Bahamas by the end of the week.
“It is good news,” he said.
“What would make it even better news is when the vaccine lands, that the Bahamian people will avail themselves of it.
“We want the Bahamian people vaccinated because we want our economy open, we want our people safe.”
When asked about the vaccine rollout, the minister added, “The rollout could start as early as next week – could start – but I will leave the announcement of such things to the honorable prime minister, who has been the testicular head in leading the charge in many regards,” Wells said.
He did not say how many doses are expected this week. However, The Bahamas is expected to receive 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca from the World Health Organization.”
