A bomb scare at the Magistrates Court Complex on South Street delayed proceedings by almost two hours yesterday.
The false alarm was called in at the nearby Nassau Street Police Station shortly after 10 a.m., prompting an evacuation of the building.
SWAT teams searched the building with the assistance of two bomb-sniffing dogs before staff received the all-clear around 11:40 a.m.
Staff, attorneys and defendants milled about in the parking lot while the building was searched. The sole prisoner who was in the court’s cellblock was moved to the holding cell at the police station.
Police did not search any of the vehicles that were parked near the court during the bomb sweep.
