Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Lanisha Rolle resigned from Cabinet this morning, hours before a Cabinet Office statement revealed that “certain matters” are under investigation.
Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis accepted Rolle’s resignation and will appoint Central Grand Bahama MP Iram Lewis as the minister of youth, sports and culture, the statement confirmed.
“Certain matters have been brought to the attention of the prime minister and are under investigation,” the statement continued.
The Cabinet Office did not specify the parameters of the investigation.
Rolle is the fourth person to resign from Minnis’ Cabinet.
In a letter addressed to Governor General Cornelius. A. Smith, Rolle said, “Today, I tender my resignation as minister of the government of The Bahamas. I am pleased to have opened and bookmark this chapter of my book of national service to the good people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.”
Rolle did not explain the reason behind her decision resign as minister.
However, she said she will continue to represent the Seabreeze constituency.
“The contract I signed with the voters of Seabreeze on election day was for a period of five years or until or unless a new member of Parliament is seated,” she said.
Rolle’s father, Derek Thompson, who was outside Cabinet, claimed that Rolle was informed that she will not be renominated as a candidate in the Seabreeze constituency.
