An emergency medical technician (EMT) has tested positive for COVID-19 on New Providence, according to the Public Hospitals Authority (PHA).
The PHA said the EMT was tested after developing symptoms.
The patient has no history of travel, and exposure “points toward community-based spread,” according to the PHA.
“The surveillance unit of the Ministry of Health is carrying out ongoing contact tracing in this regard,” it said.
“To date, 10 persons connected to the EMT have been placed in quarantine. PHA ambulances and the impacted EMS locations have been professionally cleaned and sanitized.”
The PHA said emergency medical services will continue “as usual”.
Seventy COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in The Bahamas since July 8.
The total stands at 174.
