After being exposed to a COVID-19-positive case, Deputy Prime Minister Peter Turnquest tested negative for the virus but is now in self-quarantine, the Ministry of Finance said yesterday.
The East Grand Bahama MP received a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test on Friday, July 17, 2020, after learning that he was exposed to a positive case earlier in the day.
“Out of an abundance of caution and on advice, Minister Turnquest has voluntarily entered self-quarantine,” a statement from the Ministry of Finance read.
“He continues to perform his functions as minister of finance, working remotely from home.”
This latest development comes after The Bahamas witnessed a staggering 70 new COVID-19 cases between July 8 and July 20.
The Ministry of Health reported a record-breaking 21 new cases of COVID-19 in The Bahamas yesterday.
The total number of cases now stands at 174; 101 on New Providence; 59 on Grand Bahama; 13 on Bimini and one on Cat Cay.
