A roadside coconut vendor spent a second night at the Bahamas Department of Corrections as he awaits sentencing.
Marvin Joseph, 20, of Windgate Drive, pleaded guilty to operating a business without a license when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt on Wednesday.
Police caught Joseph selling coconut jelly and water at Harold Road on July 28.
She had deferred sentencing to allow the Sergeant Samantha Miah, the prosecutor, time to get his complete criminal history.
However, Miah said she couldn’t get the details of Joseph’s history because the Criminal Records Office is “closed due to quarantine”.
Ferguson-Pratt said this wasn’t a good excuse. She directed Miah to have the information by today.
Earlier this month, police arrested Joseph at the same spot. He was charged with hawking for offering 29 bottles of coconut water, 12 bags of coconut jelly and 45 mangoes for sale.
On that occasion, Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux fined Joseph $25 or one week in prison. He paid the fine.
