42 RBPF officers sent on pre-retirement leave

Forty-two officers of the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) have been instructed to begin pre-retirement leave, according to Commissioner Paul Rolle.

“I signed letters on Monday of this week instructing 42 officers to begin their pre-retirement leave,” Rolle said.

“That is significant. So, we have to replace. That’s what’s only on the board for this week.

“They had to begin their pre-retirement leave. Once their leave is finished, they’ll be off the strength of the police force.”

Earlier this month, Rolle said the force was in need of about 300 constables in order to avoid an impending vacuum in the lower ranks.

He said yesterday, “In my address earlier this year, I indicated that we expect some 90-something officers to retire from the police force this year. That is happening. I am hoping that we get some additional police officers.”

Rolle did not give the ranks or the number of officers per rank he instructed to begin pre-retirement leave.

Several senior RBPF officers who were sent on pre-retirement leave last year are currently pursuing legal action following the decision to have them reassigned to various government agencies following the end of their pre-retirement leave.
