“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” – Psalms 23:5
Growing up, during school recess time, the common phrase for lunch was “slam bam”, so called because it was a pooling of meager funds to buy a loaf of hot bread from the local bakery along with a couple of cold, thickly cut slices of bologna sausage. If there was not enough for a drink, the water at the pump was always inviting. You were special to have prepared lunch. But I have heard stories from many on the Out Islands, that a roasted sweet potato was the order of the day.
But, suffice it to say, today, many who only had sausage and dry bread for lunch were keen students, and now enjoy a life of luxury – and if they want to, can say “slam bam” to those who teased them at lunch time.
As I told you before, I am a lover of nature, for I get to see God close up – to see his tiny paint brush as he meticulously positioned dots on leaves of flowers; and only yesterday, as I was in the yard, recent showers summoned tiny butterflies in radiant colors, that flitted in and out among a patch of flowers just as tiny! Indeed, all things bright and beautiful, the Lord God made them all.
Also, the rain increased photosynthesis and the weeds were having a “whale of a time” in the yard. But I became aware of something I didn’t before when I had all the weed taken up and, in so doing, the crab grass became victim also. So, on closer look, the weed is the cover up for the grass and hence our text: thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemy.
Dear readers, how many of you have been blessed because of the curses of your enemy? You know, “They won’t make it now, ‘cause they do not have that paying position anymore” – and God prepared a blessing for you and your enemy was very present to see what great things the Lord hath done for you.
Trust me, this global time of COVID-19, while it spells death for some, the number of those who will be blessed is beyond numbering. The poor will become rich. Those who are morally blind will see the light of righteousness. Those crippled by adverse circumstances, will not only walk, but run to embrace wonderful opportunities. Those whose family fortunes were cunningly taken away from them will have it restored seven times. Those whose tongues were tied to the roof of their mouth, so they could not speak deliverance to the socially bound, will fluently set the captives free.
Not onlywill precise and concise preparation be taken for your personal and spiritual table to be spread with all that is good for your consumption, but you will be tenderly groomed and abundantly anointed with the “oil of gladness”, to be a blessing to others, enemies included.
Why fret because of those who try to put you down? You need enemies like a dead man needs a coffin, so your table can be spread with their eyes wide open to see the turn of God’s events for your life. I bless your life!
