16 new cases of COVID-19; Exuma records first case

The Ministry of Health reported 68 new cases of COVID-19 over the past three days. This brings to 342 the total number of cases reported in The Bahamas, 238 of which are active.

Sixteen of the new cases were reported yesterday.

Among those reported was a 27-year-old woman on Exuma — the island’s first case.

Five of the cases were reported on New Providence.

The cases included four women — ages 27, 29, 72 and 88 — and a 72-year-old man.

Ten cases were reported on Grand Bahama, which is The Bahamas’ new COVID epicenter.

Two women, ages 21 and 39, were among those cases.

The remaining were men — ages 19, 21, 29, 31, 41, 42, 44 and 48.

On Saturday, the ministry reported 10 cases.

Six of those cases were reported on New Providence.

They include four men — ages 26, 41, 49 and 49 — and two women — ages 31 and 46.

The remaining were reported on Grand Bahama.

Three men — ages 30, 42 and 56 — and a 31-year-old woman made up those cases. The ministry reported 42 cases — the second largest daily reporting — on Friday.

Thirty-five of those cases were reported on Grand Bahama, five on New Providence and two on the Berry Islands.

The ministry has not provided the ages or genders for any of those individuals.

Health officials have also not provided the histories of travel for any of the cases within the last week.

That information has not been disclosed since July 19.

Grand Bahama has the most cases with 169 followed by New Providence with 135 and Bimini with 21.

The Berry Islands has six cases, Cat Cay has four, Moore’s Island has three and Cat Island has two.

Both Exuma and Great Guana Cay have one case each.

Ten cases are currently hospitalized.

So far, 91 people have recovered. The last recoveries were reported on July 13.

As of last night, 3,966 tests were completed.
