Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis said the government will have to make a decision whether to continue paying Bahamasair workers their full salaries amid the COVID-19 pandemic that has left the national airline operating a reduced schedule.
“We have a to make a decision where the Bahamasair staff, who are sitting there, should we pay them a percentage of their pay, let’s say 70 percent.”
He said the remaining 30 percent would be deferred until the economy rebounds.
“That is something we have to think about,” he continued. “It’s a difficult decision.”
Minnis added he informed the Cabinet that if such a decision is made, they should also be prepared to “defer a portion of their also in the interest of the country”.
