Health Minister Dr. Duane Sands confirmed yesterday that four patients from the Medical Surgical Ward II at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) have tested positive for COVID-19.
On Monday, the Public Hospitals Authority announced that following the confirmation of a COVID-19 case involving a patient on that ward, no further admissions will be made to the ward until further notice.
Speaking outside Cabinet today, Sands said, “I think we have to understand that this patient was not suspected to have COVID. This patient presented with something entirely different — seizures.
“There was, even in retrospect, very little reason to suspect that this patient should’ve had COVID.”
Sands suggested that it would be difficult to test every patient who passes through the public healthcare system for COVID-19.
