A man who ignored two regulations intended to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country will spend two months in prison if he doesn’t pay fines totaling $600.
Cameron Brown, 24, was not only in violation of a five-day lockdown when police found him walking on Gilbert Street in Kennedy Subdivision—he also wasn’t wearing a mask.
The requirement for people to wear masks while away from home came into effect on April 8, the same day that a five-day lockdown began.
Police arrested Brown around 7:30 p.m. on April 13. The lockdown ended at 5 a.m. on April 14.
Brown pleaded guilty to charges of violation of lockdown, failing to wear a mask in public and deceit of a public officer at his arraignment before Magistrate Sandradee Gardiner on Thursday.
He was fined $400 for violating the lockdown and $200 for failing to wear a mask.
Brown was placed on six months of probation for giving police a false name at the time of his arrest.
Brown has until April 24 to pay the money.
People who flout the curfew and lockdown regulations could receive prison sentences up to 18 months and fines up to $10,000.
