The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) announced yesterday that following the confirmation of a COVID-19 case involving a patient on the Medical Surgical Ward II at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), no further admissions will be made to that ward until further notice.
The PHA said all remaining patients on the ward have been tested for COVID-19 and contract tracing of people who were previously discharged from the ward has started via the Ministry of Health’s Disease Surveillance Unit.
Additionally, it said PHA employee health services have commenced assessment for all employees who had direct contact with the patient.
The PHA statement came not long after Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis announced in a national address that there are 60 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in The Bahamas — 51 on New Providence, seven on Grand Bahama, one on Bimini and one on Cat Cay.
These include two cases confirmed yesterday.
The Ministry of Health said the newly confirmed cases include a 67-year-old male of New Providence with no history of travel. This case is in isolation at home.
The other case is a 53-year-old male of New Providence with no history of travel. This case is hospitalized.
Health officials did not indicate whether these new cases are connected to previous cases.
The PHA meanwhile thanked staff members who continue to serve on the frontline of the pandemic.
“Your invaluable service reflects a genuine commitment in the fight against COVID-19,” the PHA said.
