Three police officers were promoted to assistant commissioners of police (ACP), the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) announced yesterday.
Three chief superintendents — Loretta Mackey, who heads administration and support services for the Northern Bahamas; Craig Stubbs, who heads the Traffic Division; and Solomon Cash, who heads the Central Detective Unit — became ACPs on March 30.
Kirkwood Andrews was promoted from chief superintendent to acting ACP.
In October 2017, Minister of National Security Marvin Dames said there were too many senior officers in the police force.
He said this was “negatively impacting the delivery of policing services” in The Bahamas.
Last year, the force’s top brass was gutted when the government sent eight senior officers, including then-Deputy Commissioner of Police Emrick Seymour, on leave.
In March 2019, Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Leader Philip Brave Davis accused the government of “purging” the police force of PLPs.
However, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis defended the decision to send the officers on leave, noting that it was not politically motivated.
