Tripadvisor data shows decline in interest in Bahamas

The Bahamas is on Tripadvisor’s list of ten slowest growing destinations for Americans, according to the travel website’s most recent review of travel trends for the period between March 1, 2021 and May 31, 2021 and based on volumes of searches for this destination on a year-on-year comparison.

Tripadvisor’s data shows that more Americans are interested in traveling again, compared to this same time last year when the COVID-19 pandemic put a veritable stop to travel. The data reveals that one-third of Americans are interested in visiting sunny locales within the continental United States, Mexico and areas of the Caribbean.

The travel company’s list shows that Isla Verde, Puerto Rico; St. Thomas; Playa Maroma, Mexico; Tulum, Mexico; Key West, Florida; Key Largo, Florida; Miami Beach, Florida; Christiansted, US Virgin Islands; Cruz Bay, US Virgin Islands; and Fort Myers Beach, Florida, are the ten fastest growing destinations for Americans.

The ten slowest include New York City, New York; San Francisco, California; Washington, DC; New Orleans, Louisiana; Los Angeles, California; Nashville, Tennessee; San Diego, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Chicago, Illinois; and Nassau, The Bahamas.

“While 2020 was the year of the staycation, with the vaccine rollout comes increasing confidence in bigger trips,” Tripadvisor states.

“Tripadvisor site data shows that of Americans who are actively planning a trip for spring on Tripadvisor, over one-third (34 percent) are searching for international destinations, compared to 66 percent searching for domestic destinations.

“Although the idea of a vacation has felt like an impossible dream for such a long time, paradise may be on the horizon. Americans are becoming increasingly confident that life will soon return to normal and they are keen to hit the road as soon as possible. In fact, a new Tripadvisor survey reveals that half of US respondents are planning a trip this spring (March 1 through May 31).”

Tripadvisor’s data reveals that while Americans are “lusting after beach resorts and ocean views”, their interest in The Bahamas has declined year-on-year.

The company also notes that millennials have revealed that they are more eager than any other generation to get back to traveling.
