Visitors to Bahamas are staying longer, new data reveals

While there may still be fewer visitors traveling to The Bahamas compared to previous years, new data reveals that those who are arriving are spending a longer time in the country.

On average, visitors are spending at least a day longer, according to new research on travel trends compiled by booking analytics company ForwardKeys.

The data shows that tickets from the United States issued in January and February 2021 were for a 6.3 day stay, compared to the 5.3 day length on average reported during the same period in 2019, when travel was at its peak in The Bahamas.

The Bahamas was ranked in the top eight Caribbean destinations that have seen an increase in the average length of stay of visitors.

Market Research Manager at ForwardKeys Luis Millan noted, “If you look at the countries that have made the top eight in terms of longer stays from US travelers, it is reassuring to see popular holiday spots such as Turks & Caicos, The Bahamas and Aruba still faring well,” he said.

“It’s interesting to observe different patterns of stays due to diverse travel restriction policies. For instance, the average stay in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands remains the same as in pre-pandemic times, as US travelers are excluded from the CDC requirement to provide a negative COVID-19 test result to return to mainland US.”

The most recent data from the Nassau Airport Development Company Ltd. (NAD) showed that there were just 23,099 departures in January 2021, a 83 percent drop from the 142,445 passengers recorded during the same period a year earlier.
