Seabreeze MP Lanisha Rolle yesterday shied away from saying whether she expects to be renominated by the Free National Movement (FNM) and insisted that her integrity remains intact following her resignation from Cabinet last week.
“It remains intact and I will continue to do my work for the people of Seabreeze,” she said.
Asked if her resignation was connected to any audit going on at her former ministry, Rolle told reporters, “I am not aware of an audit.”
But she noted, “…Audits are ongoing. They are not something new. It’s ongoing always in every ministry of the government.”
Rolle, however, said she believes any audit will show she has done nothing wrong.
“I would have met auditing going on at [the Ministry of] Youth, Sports and Culture,” she said.
“I met auditing going on at the Ministry of Social Services. Auditing continues at every ministry of the government every year at any time. It is nothing new, not as I am aware.
“And so, the process is the process and the results are the results.
“And I think, according to my tenure, they will always find that what I do to the best of my knowledge and ability with the information I have is to follow those rules. I believe that that is what will be found.”
In response to a question, Rolle added, “I don’t entertain social media claims. They are what they are. You deal with facts. You deal with issues and you deal with the truth. I don’t have time for those things.”
Asked about her mood since her resignation, she said, “It is what it is. This is politics. Decisions are made. Things are done and you make the best of it. And that’s what you must do. You must be patriotic, you must be respectful at all times and you have to trust the process and that’s all I’m doing, being patient.”
Asked whether she expects to get the Free National Movement’s (FNM) nomination for Seabreeze once again, the former minister said, “We will see what will happen, but my life is guided by the Lord and whatever he permits is well done with me.”
She added, “It’s up to the party when it comes to nominations…and so, I’ll have to respect the party’s process and certainly the outcome at the end of the day.”
Rolle resigned as minister of youth, sports and culture last Tuesday. She did not give a reason in her resignation letter to the governor general and declined to provide any reason yesterday.
Hours after her resignation letter to the governor general surfaced, the Cabinet Office released a statement formally announcing the resignation and added, “Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis has accepted Mrs. Rolle’s resignation. Certain matters have been brought to the attention of the prime minister and are under investigation.”
However, the parameters of the investigation were not specified.
On Thursday, when asked whether the former minister was directly connected to an investigation or whether she is being investigated, Minnis told reporters, “No, she is not.”
Central Grand Bahama MP Iram Lewis has been appointed minister of youth, sports and culture, leaving no women sitting in the Cabinet of The Bahamas.
