Adult braces can be fast and safe

Are you interested in braces that give faster results yet are safe?

Maybe you have had traditional braces and refuse to wear them again because you dread the length of time it will take?

You are interested in braces however you refuse to have four good teeth removed to prepare for traditional braces?

In this column, I explore two innovations in the technology of tooth movement for adults – Fastbraces technology and Invisalign system.

Wearing braces is common in our society. The majority of braces wearers are children and teenagers. Today, with the focus on smile design and cosmetic enhancement coupled with good health and wellness, many adults are benefiting from braces.

For a complete and comprehensive plan to be developed, your dentist should always consider braces prior to a final decision on your treatment plan. The treatment choice should be unique to your dental situation. This should happen after a candid discussion with your dentist or orthodontist.

Traditional braces usually involves the wearing of brackets for 18 months to three to four years. For many patients, this works just fine; however, many patients would prefer the convenience of wearing braces for a much shorter period and not having to extract any teeth.

Today, many experienced dentists are providers of adult braces. With proper knowledge, training and a good understanding of the art and science of tooth movement, braces can safely be performed by many qualified dentists.

Fastbraces technology

Fastbraces technology is comprehensive orthodontics, just like traditional braces. It is supported by over 25 years of research utilizing a patented (exclusive rights) technology that grows bone with light forces through a process called “ortho-eruption”. This technology results in teeth moving to their ideal position usually in 100 days. How is this possible?

This system uses breakthrough technology designed to remove the two-step process of traditional braces. In traditional braces, the first year is focused on the crown (tooth head) getting into position and the second and maybe third years, the root follows. In Fastbraces technology, the roots begin to move toward its ideal position from week one by using the patented braces. This method helps to restore the bone because the bone follows the root.

In most braces cases, it is unnecessary to remove four perfectly good teeth in order to place traditional braces. Another notable difference in Fastbraces technology is it only uses one arch wire throughout the treatment; thereby increasing speed and results. Patients usually see results in days and the pain is usually reduced.

Some limitations of Fastbraces technology include not being recommended for cases that involve dento-facial orthopedics or skeletal deformities. These cases require a series of visits and appliances, usually provided by an orthodontist. In this regard, case selection is important for the dentist.

Invisalign system

Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable and comfortable aligners. Invisalign is made with 3D computer imaging technology that has been proven effective. The design of these aligners allows one to eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Also, they are comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. With no metal and wires, you spend less time in the dental office getting adjustments.

Invisalign treatment is the process of wearing a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually straighten your teeth. Invisalign clear aligners are made of flexible plastic. Teeth tend to become straightened in six to 12 months or less than half the time as traditional braces.

Some limitations of the Invisalign system include not being recommended for severely crooked and misaligned teeth. Again, case selection is important to treatment outcomes.

Fastbraces and Invisalign are effective innovative braces treatments that are safe, reliable and efficient. Patients experience fewer dental visits, reduction in costs and, yes, straight teeth. This is because straight teeth are easier to brush and floss because you’ll be able to reach every surface of your teeth in order to remove food particles and plaque. Once your teeth are straight, you’ll notice an improvement in your dental health and wellness.
