80-year-old woman is the latest COVID-19 death

Health officials confirmed that an 80-year-old woman from New Providence was the latest person to die from COVID-19. 

Officials reported that the woman died on February 23. The latest death pushed the total number of COVID-19 deaths to 180. Thirty-nine people were confirmed to have died with COVID-19, but not because of it, and another 15 deaths were still under investigation.

Forty-four COVID-19 cases were confirmed in The Bahamas between Thursday and Saturday, according to the Ministry of Health’s COVID dashboard.

Twelve of those cases were confirmed on Thursday; 23 on Friday and nine on Saturday.

Of the new cases, 14 were on New Providence; 15 on Grand Bahama; 10 on Abaco; two on Bimini and Cat Cay; one on The Berry Islands, and one on Eleuthera. The location of one of the cases was pending as of yesterday.

The cases bring the total confirmed in the country to 8,551. Since the start of February, 328 cases have been confirmed.

As of Saturday, there were 980 active cases of COVID-19 in The Bahamas and 7,337 recoveries.

Sixteen people were hospitalized with COVID on Saturday, with two people in intensive care, according to the dashboard.

As of Saturday, 68,473 tests had been completed in The Bahamas.
