Kadeem Coleby and Zane Knowles returned to action in the Turkey Basketball League (TBL), and both scored in double digits in their latest outings.
Coleby helped his team, Merkezefendi Belediyesi Denizli Basket (8-8), to a 77-63 home victory over Mamak Belediyesi (8-8) at the Pamukkale Üniversitesi Spor Salonu in Denizli, Turkey. He had a monster stat line, turning in a double-double with game-highs of 20 points and 19 rebounds in 30 minutes of play.
For Knowles, his team Balikesir Büyükşehir Belediyespor (9-7) fell 94-79 on the road to Kocaeli BŞB Kağitspor (10-6) at Kocaeli Atatürk Spor Salonu in Kocaeli, Turkey. Knowles scored 16 points and pulled down a team-high seven boards in just over 31 minutes of play.
Coleby went 9-for-14 from the field, shooting 64.3 percent. He was 2-for-3 from the free throw line. In addition, he finished with an assist, a block and a steal.
Coleby wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard when he scored the first two buckets of the game. His team jumped out to a 17-4 lead before Mamak ended the quarter on a 10-0 scoring run.
A 25-19 second-quarter advantage was enough to push Coleby and his team to a 42-33 lead at the half. They then went on to use a 35-30 second-half advantage to record the victory.
Coleby helped his team out-rebounded their opponents, 46-34. They also moved the ball better as they dished out 25 assists compared to Mamak’s 14.
Knowles finished his game shooting 5-for-8 from the field, 62.5 percent. He had four assists and was 6-for-10 from the charity stripe.
The home team jumped out to a 24-20 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bahamian and his team found it tough to get their offense going in the second quarter as they were outscored 30-19. The home team led 54-39 at the half.
The second half was even as both teams scored 40 points.
The difference maker in the game was Kocaeli’s 15 made three-pointers compared to Balikesir’s six made three-pointers.
After two straight losses on the road, Knowles and Balikesir will look to get back in the win column when they head home to play Ankara Anadolu Basket on Sunday at Kurtdereli Spor Salonu in Balikesir, Turkey. The game will tip off at 3:45 p.m., eight hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST) here in The Bahamas.
Coleby and Denizli will look to make it four wins in their last five games on Saturday when they head on the road to play Budo Gemlik at Gemlik Spor Salonu in Bursa, Turkey. That game gets underway at 5:30 p.m. local time, eight hours ahead of EST here in The Bahamas.
