Florida-based Bahamian recording artist and producer Padrino is set to launch his new album, called “Genres”, on September 25. The launch, which will occur from The Bahamas, follows a busy year filled with new singles released, lots of music production projects and collaborations with other artists.
His latest project, “Clean Heart”, was released at the beginning of August. It followed two other successful singles – “Brighter Days”, featuring Monty D, which was released in June 2020 and peaked at #1 on the iTunes World (Bahamas) chart and at #17 in Canada in less than two weeks; and “All For You”, produced by ZJ Chrome, which was released in July 2020. The single, which charted at #11 on the Reggae Billboard chart, is part of the “Between the Lines” riddim, which also features recording artists I-Octane, Konshens, Cé’cil, Romain Virgo and Christopher Martin.
“I have a new one coming out called ‘YSL’ that will be released on the day of my album launch,” noted Padrino, born Rory Bowe, during an interview with Pulse.
“There will be a release of singles every month up until January 2021 after the album is released. There will also be a lyric video and music video for every single I put out and I will also release a reggae album in January. Then I will also be doing another mixed genre album, called ‘Genres 2’, for my birthday in April,” revealed the prolific artist.
Padrino is a man of many talents – producer, song writer, rapper and engineer. He has worked with an impressive list of international artists: Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Mark Middleton from the group Black Street, Keri Hilson, Junior Reid, Smoke from Field Mob, Rocko, Grammy songwriter Robert Waller aka EST, Tory Lanze, Jah Cure and Popcaan, to name a few.
Padrino began his singing career at the age of 16 and has continued to develop his brand and reputation over the years in the United States.
“Me and my team have been building my brand for some time now. I have a handpicked team of people that we have been using across the world – publicists, marketers, etc. – to get this stuff accomplished. At this point in my career I’m not really focused on the local market, but The Bahamas is home, so it is definitely the first place I would send new music and promote it. We are actually going to launch my new album from The Bahamas on September 25. I’ve built my label in the US, my own publishing company, so we are looking to be very successful in the long term.”
Padrino is also proud of the work he has done with many local artists, in terms of developing their sound, in production and engineering or just simple guidance.
“I’ve been working with local artists for many years and continue to do so. My latest project with local talent is a song I produced, called ‘No Ordinary Love’ by Sanjardo B, an artist scheduled to sign onto my label. When I see someone I’m interested in, or we catch a vibe and I think they are very talented, I would typically reach out or keep my eyes on them until they start making some moves. Working with local artists back home is exhilarating. It’s nice to know that the hard work I’m doing is being recognized and respected, so it feels good to help artists bring their career to light. We live in a small place and it’s hard to accomplish that.”
Reflecting on the way music created by Bahamians is accepted in the Bahamian market, Padrino said locals should be more embracing of local talent, but he also thinks Bahamian artists need to step their game up.
“I wouldn’t say that I’m all the way pleased with the way music that is done by Bahamians is received by Bahamians, however, that is starting to change and as we do more professional work across the globe, I think Bahamians will start to realize that we are a force to be reckoned with, even though we are a small country. One of my long-term goals is to bring the talent that we have to the forefront and to be competitive in the music business globally.”
Padrino’s fans can find his music on all platforms, such as Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon Music and Tidal; and also check out his music videos on his Youtube channel Padrino Music. Group and his Vevo channel, iampadrino.
