Two men charged with separate murders

The suspect in the murder of 44-year-old Danton Woods has proof that he sustained injuries while in custody, his lawyer alleged yesterday.

Defense lawyer Jomo Campbell said that 19-year-old Tyshawn Moxey went to a doctor for a physical before he turned himself into police for questioning on his advice.

Campbell told the court that the examination showed that Moxey was “free from bruises, scratches and injury”.

However, at Moxey’s initial appearance before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes, Campbell alleged that police beat his client.

Campbell alleged, “His right pinky finger is swollen and can’t move. He has bruises and was suffocated.”

According to Campbell, the swelling on the left side of Moxey’s face had started to go down.

Campbell said, “This was all done in an attempt to extract a confession.”

Moxey was not required to enter a plea to the murder charge.

Woods, a father of two, was gunned down in front of his home on Hawthorne Road on September 13.

Prosecutors plan to fast-track the case against Woods to the Supreme Court by way of a voluntary bill of indictment on December 4.

Police also charged a fourth suspect in the 2018 shooting murder of Craig Trevor Smith.

Prosecutors allege that Andrew Burrows, while concerned with others, killed the 58-year-old at Maxwell Lane, off Rockcrusher Road, on January 19, 2018.

Burrows was not required to enter a plea to the charge when he appeared before Forbes with his attorney Roberto Reckley.

His co-defendants, Keith Stubbs, Stephan Claude and Elvardo Deveaux, were charged with the murder on January 25, 2018.
