Rolle dismisses ‘propaganda’ social media claims on NIB consultant

Claims that a Free National Movement (FNM) Torchbearer, who was recently hired to work at the National Insurance Board (NIB), is making a six-figure salary are not true, according to Minister of Public Service and National Insurance Brensil Rolle.

His comments followed outrage on social media after it surfaced that the member of the FNM’s youth branch — Gabrielle McKenzie — was reportedly making more than $100,000.

“What they’re saying on social media is not true,” Rolle told The Nassau Guardian.

He continued, “I saw something flying on social media about us hiring a consultant for $100,000-plus. That’s not true. In NIB, it’s just the word consultant that was used but the person is not a consultant. She’s somebody who works in the director’s office.”

He added, “The person could have been called a clerk. The person is not working in the mainstream board as yet. She’s working with the director, that’s why she is an assistant to one of the directors.”

Rolle added, “We hire where vacancies exist and we focus on bringing younger people into the board. It’s just a replacement of those who are older.”

Rolle described the social media claims as “propaganda”.

“They know, like I know, that it’s not true,” he said.

“I spoke to the union about it. This is a young lady making $30,000 or thereabout.”
