With The Bahamas gradually reopening after a second wave of the novel coronavirus affected the country, one sporting federation in particular has posted its list of protocols on its Facebook page in anticipation that their athletes can resume training shortly. That federation is the Bahamas Aquatics Federation (BAF).
There is no timetable as to when athletes will be allowed to train at facilities, but Bahamas Aquatics is ensuring that their athletes are prepared and kept safe whenever that time comes.
“We are excited to be getting back to familiar routines but want to take measures that will not compromise the progress we have made thus far in combating COVID-19. We wish to thank you all in advance for your cooperation and adherence to the protocols,” the flyer stated.
One of those protocols pertains to swimmers who do not feel well. They are not permitted to attend practices and are required to follow the advice of their medical practitioners.
The flyer stated: “If a swimmer exhibits any symptoms, their parents will be notified. They will NOT be permitted to swim, and they will be isolated until their parents collect them.”
Other protocols include one swim group at a time on the pool deck with a grace period of 20 minutes between scheduled practices.
Masks have become an integral part of the “new normal”. Swimmers have to don their masks when entering and leaving the pool deck. As for coaches, they will have to wear their masks while the swimmers are on deck.
The social distancing protocols will also be adhered to as swimmers are not permitted to congregate on the pool deck and must remain three to six feet apart. Also, they are to remain six feet away from coaches, and swim bags are to be placed six feet apart. Only one swimmer will be allowed to use the bathroom at a time and they must ensure that they have on footwear.
Parents are not allowed on the pool deck and are asked to remain in their vehicles and must wear a mask if they leave their vehicle.
The use of hand sanitizers is also now a regular occurrence and it will be no different at practices.
Back in May, professional and elite swimmers were allowed to train when the country started its reopening of the economy plan. That got the federation’s feet wet for when all the swimmers returned to the pool. They will be looking to pick up where they left off in ensuring swimmers get ready for competition.
