A 44-year-old man who was arrested almost immediately after an armed robbery at a photo studio made his first court appearance yesterday.
Prosecutors allege that George Delva Sr., of Bristol Street, Blair Estates, robbed Charles Sawyer and Portraits a la Sawyers of $208,000.20 on February 11.
Delva faced the alternative charge of receiving the money. He was also accused of possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and three unfired rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Delva was not required to enter pleas to the charges when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt and he was denied bail.
However, the court ordered police to take Delva to Princess Margaret Hospital before they transported him to the prison.
Delva’s lawyer, Dion Smith, said that police had ignored previous requests for medical care.
Delva told the magistrate that he was beaten on his side and that police had knocked out a tooth.
Delva returns to court on April 1.
