Inaugural Harbour Island junior tennis tourney deemed a success

The sport of tennis is making its mark in the Family Islands as the first Harbour Island Junior Tennis Tournament was held this past weekend on Harbour Island.

In boys 16 and under singles, BJ Bullard took down Desron Gray in the final, and in the doubles competition, the team of Bullard and Gray prevailed over Nathan Jimenez and Rackai Symonette.

In the boys 12 and under singles final, Jimenez and Symonette were scheduled to complete their match but the result was unavailable up to press time. They were tied at a set apiece. In boys 12 and under doubles, Jimenez and Symonette defeated the team of Ellis Culmer and Austin Knowles Jr.

In girls singles, Andrielle Gardner prevailed over Nora Rise-Ward in the final and in girls doubles, the team of Gardner and Aretha Culmer defeated Rise-Ward and Aisha Percent in the final.

In the Coach’s Challenge, Nicholas Posner defeated Ayai Bethel.

Sponsors of the junior tennis tournament were the Member of Parliament for North Eleuthera Rickey Mackey, Ocean View Resort, the Coral Sands Resort, South Bar Development, Paul King, Sip Sip Restaurant, Tracy Posner, Chacora Lumber and Captain Bob.

The tournament directors were Artie Johnson and Dwight Stewart.

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) congratulates the organizers and participants of the inaugural tournament which featured some up-and-coming tennis athletes.

The tournament was deemed to be a tremendous success.
