A ‘sensational’ spring break beach party

Lil Jon.

It’s time to shake off the winter blues and get into the newness of spring at the Atlantis resort as it debuts its newest party – Sensation Spring Break Beach Party. Years before Coachella and EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival), there was Woodstock – the U.S. festival – and in years to come, the principles at Atlantis expect their Sensation Spring Break Beach Party to be spoken about with the same reverence, and referenced as the hottest Caribbean party ever had.

The inaugural Sensation Spring Break Beach Party will be one for the ages with a sensational lineup of DJs tapped for the event that is expected to end all beach parties and that will include Lil Jon, DJ Irie, Loud Luxury, Konflikt, Brandi Cyrus, Brooke Evers and Chase B.

Michael MacDonnell, Atlantis vice president, food and beverage, said it is their hope that Sensation becomes the event that people look back on and be like, “‘I remember that amazing time I had at Sensation,’ and the name synergizes with that moment of feeling. Before you know it…a year has gone by, or you’ve graduated college, you’re living your profession, but you’ll always remember that Sensation you had at Atlantis.”

A stage on the sand, daytime beach parties, an open bar and nightly DJs on West Beach encompass the Sensation Spring Break Beach Party, which will be held March 7 to 16 at Atlantis’ West Beach.

And it’s not just an event for the college set.

“I’m totally embracing this. At 46 years old, I absolutely would love to go to this concert on the beach. Where else in the world do you get a concert on a private island on the beach with the greatest ‘A’ list DJs out there?”

MacDonnell said Sensation is inclusive and not exclusive; and is open to everyone, not just spring breakers.

“It’s inclusive to locals, to our resort guests, to people coming into the country who may not be staying at the Atlantis resort – anybody looking to have an amazing week is welcome to join us,” he said.

And he stresses that safety is first and foremost for their Sensation guests.

“It’s important that it’s safe. We’re going to have a lot of security [because] we want to make sure everybody is proper and responsible, and we want to make sure everyone has a wonderful time and make sure no one has any incidents.”

He said security will be heavily involved in the process, from the way people queue up to enter the grounds, making sure there’s no issue at the line, to the way people conduct themselves in the party.

“We want to make sure it’s fun for everyone,” he said.

Atlantis’ culinary team has also been tasked with coming up with a Bahamian menu to showcase during the party.

The Sensation daytime party is $179 and includes an all-you-can-drink open bar from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; a night pass to Aura nightclub for $50, with the only exception being the Loud Luxury Night at Aura for which entry will be $129; or can be bundled for $229 and Sensation together. The deepest discounts for Sensation are to be had with their three, four and five-day bundles.

Local soca deejays open the Sensation party at 12 noon, with headliners scheduled to take over at 3:30 p.m. and take the party through to 5 p.m. before allowing partygoers to rest up before commandeering Aura nightclub at 10 p.m. until 4 a.m.

MacDonnell anticipates between 300 and 500 people for the beach party, but says they can accommodate up to 850 people.

Tickets are available online and at the box office, the week of the event. MacDonnell said they prefer that people wanting to feel the Sensation purchase tickets in advance due to the limits they will be imposing.

“Once we hit that 500 number we’re going to reevaluate if we want to continue to sell. Right now, we’ve hit the ground running and have already sold a number of tickets. And the first tickets sold were a four-day pass and a five-day pass, so people are taking advantage of the deepest discounts on the four and five-day bundles,” he said.
