Forward bookings for Baha Mar are inching closer to 100 percent of pre-pandemic occupancy numbers, the resort’s Senior Vice President of Administration and External Relations Robert Sands said.
Sands said looking ahead to the rest of the year, bookings are only about 15 percent off from 2019’s historic levels.
“I can tell you that business at Baha Mar has been very encouraging. You would be aware that this time of the year is traditionally the slowest period of the year, but as we look forward to winter 2022, we are very encouraged by the advanced bookings,” he said.
“I can tell you that we are over 85 percent of the pre-COVID results and so, yes, we are getting back to almost 100 percent of where we were pre-COVID.”
Earlier this summer, Baha Mar President Graeme Davis said the resort was up about 10 percent in business levels on the books for 2022 compared to 2019 going into 2020.
This summer, the resort opened its $200 million family-friendly waterpark Baha Bay.
“As a family amenity, it has been a very important addition to the amenities that we offer and it has been well-received both by our guests who visit from abroad and also the general Bahamian public,” Sands said.
Last month, following the announcement of US President Joe Biden’s new policy requiring that all foreign travelers entering the United States be vaccinated as of November 1, Sands said it is important that more Bahamians get vaccinated. However, he revealed that vaccination numbers among resort employees remain subdued, saying that as of this week “in excess of 50 percent” had gotten the jab.
The Ministry of Health announced this week that more than 100,000 Bahamian residents were fully vaccinated.
