Police said two men were shot and killed in separate incidents on New Providence yesterday.
Assistant Superintendent Audley Peters said police are not certain whether the two incidents are connected but are looking into it.
Police said the first murder took place on Melthorn Street in Pineyard shortly after 11 a.m.
“A young man came outside of his home to talk with people who pulled up in a white vehicle,” Chief Superintendent Shanta Knowles said.
“He had a conversation with them for a short time and a passenger from that vehicle came out of the vehicle and shot him before getting back in and speeding away.
“The injured man was transported to the hospital and succumbed to his injuries a short time later.”
Knowles said the victim appeared to be in his 20s and was not known to police.
Hours later, shortly after 2 p.m., police were called to the scene of a triple shooting on Rosewood Street, Pinewood Gardens.
Police said three men were injured, but one man died at the scene.
Peters said a group of men were outside a home when a black car drove by and circled back.
“On the return of the vehicle, an occupant opened the door and discharged a firearm in the direction of the persons gathered,” Peters said.
“Three males were injured. Two of the males were transported to the hospital via a private vehicle and the third male succumbed to his injuries on the scene.”
A witness, who claims to have witnessed the second incident, said the victim was a father of three young girls who never bothered anyone.
“From I was growing up, he don’t bother no one,” he told reporters.
“I see him to himself all the time. But this…it’s just like I don’t know what’s going on these days.”
The witness said he had been outside washing a truck when the shooting began. He said he sprinted inside to try and protect his son and younger brother.
“When I heard all those shots going off, I went running inside to grip my little brother and my little boy,” he said.
“I grip all them and throw them under the bed.”
He called for something to be done about the frequent shootings in his community.
“Something needs to be done,” the witness said.
“This the first time it happened in front of my house. But through here, all the time they come up and shoot up. But this is the first time it happened in front of my house.”
