A pet owner whose Pit Bulls mauled a woman has been fined $3,150.
At his arraignment before Magistrate Kara Turquest-Deveaux, Jason Barr, 44, admitted to allowing ferocious dogs to be at large on February 21, 2020.
He will spend one year in prison if he doesn’t pay the fine by October 2 to pay $3,150. The magistrate also ordered the dogs put down.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Wynette McPhee, told the court that police responded after receiving a report of the dog attack at Sequoia Street around 3:30 p.m.
When the officers arrived, ambulance attendants were taking Casmena Gardiner to hospital for treatment of multiple bites to her face and body, McPhee said.
Animal control officers impounded the dogs, the court heard.
Barr told the magistrate that he thought the dogs were secured. He said he wished that Gardiner were in court, so that he could apologize for the “actions of my dogs once again”.
He said he rushed home from work after learning about the attack.
Barr claimed that only one dog attacked Gardiner.
The magistrate replied, “Neither of us were there.”
