Sandilands receives a donation of masks and gloves from Helping Hands

Logan Stubbs presents masks to Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre. In the front row from left are Geriatric Consultant Dr. Indira Grimes and Logan Stubbs. In the middle row are Staff Nurse Henrietta Demeritte and Patient Care Assistant Carolyn Saunders. In the back (near the door) is Sister Jennifer Roberts.

Logan Stubbs, a 10-year-old, 5th grade student at Xavier’s Lower School, has always been a giving child.

On Friday, May 8th, 2020, Logan Stubbs and her parents generously donated handmade reusable face masks to the staff of the Geriatric Hospital. The masks were made by her grandmother.

Wherever help and awareness in the community is needed, Logan finds the time to lend a helping hand. ‘Helping Hands’- an initiative started by Logan, focuses on creating a culture where giving back is a priority.  While the COVID19 pandemic has impacted us socially, this vibrant soul wanted to find some way to lend a helping hand.

Logan thought of the senior citizens, who are more at a high risk of contracting the coronavirus (COVID-19). Since we are now required, as a safety rule, to wear masks, Logan asked her grandmother, Sharlamae Stubbs, to assist in making masks to donate to Sandilands’ geriatric wards, to help protect the elderly persons there who are the core of the “Adopt A Grandparent” program. She said, “it is important for them to have masks because they are an important part of our society. Logan’s goal is to continue to highlight and reinforce community efforts where a helping hand makes our society stronger and more resilient while contributing to a positive environment.

The recipient team comprised of Dr. Indira Grimes (director of geriatric services), Nursing Officer 1 Jennifer Roberts, Staff Nurse Henrietta Demeritte and Patient Care Assistant Carolyn Stubbs expressed gratitude and accepted the gift on behalf of the hospital’s management team.
