A court on Tuesday ordered a man who cut off his ankle bracelet in 2017 to pay for the damage caused to the device.
Sony Pierre, of Carmichael Road, has until July 30 to pay the $1,512 to replace the tracking device. If he doesn’t, he will spend six months in prison. Pierre pleaded guilty to causing damage at his arraignment before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes.
According to Sergeant Lincoln McKenzie, the prosecutor, officials at Migrafill lost track of Pierre on November 21, 2017. Police arrested Pierre for violation of bail on May 21, he said.
At his arraignment, Pierre said that he had won the stealing case that required him to wear the bracelet as a condition of bail.
He told the court that he removed the monitor himself out of desperation because he needed to go to work.
According to Pierre, he almost hurt himself in cutting off the device.
Forbes told him that he should have returned to the court for it to be removed.
