Man accused of violating curfew discharged

A magistrate on Wednesday granted an absolute discharge to a man arrested outside his home during the curfew.

Remington Marshall admitted the offense when he appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes.

Police arrested him outside his home around 10:30 p.m. on May 20 on Moonshine Drive in Sunshine Park.

Marshall said he was outside, but he had an explanation.

According to Marshall, his girlfriend went to the store earlier that day but left the five-gallon water bottles inside the car.

Marshall said they were out of water when he went to retrieve the water. He said he decided to move the vehicle because she had parked it too close to the gate.

After reviewing Marshall’s police interview, the magistrate granted an absolute discharge.

Another man whose reason for being outside during the curfew kept changing, was fined $400 or two months in prison.

Police arrested Jawalli Williams, of Third Street, Coconut Grove, on Lemon Street around 12:45 p.m. on May 25.

Williams told the court that he was headed home after dropping groceries to his girlfriend.

But upon arrest, he told them he was hanging out with his cousin.

Forbes also looked at Williams’ cautioned statement. He said that the “groceries could be a euphemism for many things”.

Because of his dishonesty, Forbes said he was tempted to “embarrass” Williams by revealing what he told police during his interview.

Diana Pierre was fined $400 or one month in prison after police found her on Faith Avenue around 2:40 a.m. on May 26.

Pierre said she had the curfew times confused.

Marlon Brown, of Woods Alley, was arrested at John’s Close after 10 p.m. on May 26.

Brown claimed that he went to his sister for food because his wife and children were hungry.

The magistrate fined him $400 or two months in prison.
