A magistrate on Friday entered a not guilty plea for a man who claimed he was on his way to turn in a kilo of cocaine when police arrested him.
Chester McPhee, 41, of Crooked Island, entered a guilty plea to a charge of possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply at his arraignment before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.
Police on patrol in Acklins stopped the car that McPhee was traveling in and found a package of cocaine inside his waist on September 14.
McPhee, who did not have a lawyer, told McKinney that he’d found the cocaine on the beach. He said that he intended to turn the drugs into police.
McKinney did not convict McPhee of the charge because his plea was unequivocal. As a result, McKinney set McPhee’s bail at $10,000 on the condition that he appears for his trial on October 28.
Inspector Timothy Bain prosecuted.
