Our land stands to be blessed by God

And all the world came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine was severe everywhere. – Genesis 41:57, When Jacob learned that there was grain in Egypt, he said to his sons, “Why do you just keep looking at each other?” He continued, “I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there and buy some for us, so that we may live and not die.” – Genesis 42:1-2

With the results of the general election of last week, the thunderous shout of victory at the polls sung here, there and everywhere. All praise and thanks to God, our Father!

But, like the bliss of a honeymoon, when it is over, reality sets in and the future is not to be neglected but embraced with high hopes and great expectations.

As I look at our text today, I come face to face with COVID-19 as it is the famine of biblical days that has impacted the lives and livelihood of people everywhere on this planet, called Earth. Fear and panic cries “waft on breezes” of uncertainty as to the financial standing of our country. But know today, that God is at work and out of the financial famine will come forth a Joseph for each person to receive corn in their empty bags, for no matter how severe the famine may be, there is a barn with ample provision somewhere with a Joseph at the helm. How good it is to know Joseph!

The story of Joseph is so real. We have Joseph who because of his gift and potential for greatness, is envied and hated by his brethren. Further he is stripped of his outer garment and banished to a foreign land, never to be seen or heard from again. Lies are told by his brothers to their father as to his disappearance and likely death, but again, God is at work.

Although stripped and shipped, Joseph ends up to be a leader in Egypt, because God gave him the gift to interpret the Pharaoh’s dreams. He foresees seven years of plenty followed by seven years of austerity. Joseph demands and commands that corn must be grown in every nook and cranny and the surplus brought to a national barn.

Because of the global famine of the times, all nations and peoples were able to come to Egypt for corn. It does not matter where you place Joseph, his light will shine through the darkness of hate, deceit and spite.

Our land stands to be blessed by God, regardless of what downgrading “moods” are placed on us. God has given us Josephs who through their intellectual, financial, propitious and fortuitous talents would have us to become the “barn of the world” where every man will have his empty bags – or whatever caused their emptiness – to be filled without malice, hatred or deceit.

I give God thanks for what he has done in our midst and in the eyes of those who came to see the “manner of our bearing”. To God be the glory, great things he hath done.
