It has been an up and down season for Bahamian Minor League Baseball (MiLB) player Lucius Fox Jr.
As of late, Fox Jr. has seemed to have found his rhythm after having his best month of the 2022 season as he hit a homerun on Sunday in a 10-3 victory against the Iowa Cubs.
After losing their first four games in their six-game series, Fox and the Omaha Storm Chasers won the final two games over the Cubs on Saturday and Sunday. In the Sunday game, Fox was brilliant as he hit a home run in a 10-3 drubbing of the Cubs at Werner Park in Papillion, Nebraska.
He played both shortstop and centerfield in this game. He finished 2-for-4 to go with two runs and two runs batted in (RBIs).
The leadoff batter did not need a count against him as he hammered Dakota Mekke’s first pitch in the bottom of the first inning. The ball went over left center field and outside the park to put the first run of the game on the scoreboard. His team was up at the end of the first inning.
At the bottom of the third, Fox was walked. He got to the third base on a Cubs fielding error. After Emamanuel Rivera groundout, Fox was able to tie the game at three runs apiece with his second run of the day. The Storm Chasers scored four runs in that inning to take a 5-3 lead.
Fox got his second hit of the afternoon which was his ninth double of the season. That hit to center field brought home Travis Jones and put the Storm Chasers up 6-3. It was batting practice for the Storm Chasers as they finished with 13 hits.
The Storm Chasers crushed the Cubs 14-3 on Saturday night. Fox played centerfield in this game and finished the night 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
Fox has raised his game to another level in September. He is 14-for-57 this month with a batting average of .246 this month – well above his season average of .211. All two of his homeruns on the season came in this month.
It has been a rough season for the Storm Chasers as they sport a 66-54 win/loss overall record. They are eighth in the Triple-A East League standings and are already out of playoff contention. They are 5-5 in their last 10 game and will look to end their season strong. They have 10 games remaining on the season and will end their season on October 3.
He will look to make it four straight games with at least one hit when he and his Storm Chasers welcome the Indianapolis Indians (57-62) to Werner Park tomorrow night. That game will get underway at 7.05 p.m.
