BLTA sends U12 team to COTECC competition

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) has sent a three-member team to represent The Bahamas at the 2021 Confederation of Tennis of Central American and the Caribbean (COTECC) Under-12 (U12) competition at the Centro Nacional de Tenis Parque del Este in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Competition got underway yesterday and ends on Friday, October 1.

Tatyana Madu, Kayla Fox and Briana Houlgrave will all compete for the first time at this event. The head coach is Marion Bain. They will get their first action underway today when they play against St. Lucia at 9 a.m.

The tournament is played like the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup format. Each event will be played with two singles matches and a doubles match. The first two teams of each sub-Region plus two teams from Mexico will qualify for the International Tennis Federation/COTECC U12 Team final which will take place on the week of November 22.

The best of the best in the U12 in the region are competing including, The Bahamas, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and host nation Dominican Republic. Also in action are Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Grenada, Guyana, Curacao, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent, Suriname, US Virgin Islands and Trinidad & Tobago.
