Baha mar employees will be tested weekly once resort reopens

Baha Mar employees will be tested weekly once Baha Mar begins its phased reopening on December 17, Baha Mar President Graeme Davis announced In a letter to resort staff.

“We will reopen in several carefully planned phases, so as to fulfill the highest standards of safety for our associates, guests, and the community as a whole,” he said in the letter.

“Our first phase of reopening will include Grand Hyatt, Baha Mar Casino, Carna, Filia, Katsuya, Three Tides, Six Noodle Bar, Royal Blue, The Racquet Club, retail shops, The Current, Jazz Bar, T2 and select outlets around the pool and beach area.”

Davis said Baha Mar’s goal is to create the safest environment possible for its associates, guests and community.

“To this end, we will require all associate to test negative on a government approved COVID-19 rapid antigen test prior to their return to work, which will be performed on property,” he said.

“All associates will be required to take this test on a weekly basis thereafter. Upon returning to work it will be critical that you maintain a careful and safe lifestyle, both at Baha Mar and at home.”

Davis also announced that Baha Mar will open a new eatery, Sugar Factory, soon after its reopening.

“This vibrant venue will feature a carousel bar, a floor-to-ceiling candy wall and the first Candy Ocean by Sugar Factory, a virtual oasis of life-size sculptures of dolphins and harks, flamingoes frolicking on cotton candy clouds and more.” Davis said.

Baha Mar’s waterpark, Baha Bay, remains on track to open next summer.

Davis said Baha Mar is considering extending the ex-gratia payment and benefits for those employees who are not called back in the first phase.

Last month, Baha Mar President Graeme Davis said the resort cannot reopen until COVID-19 numbers in The Bahamas are lowered.

In the past few weeks, the number of daily cases have decreased. There have been over 6,700 COVID-19 cases in The Bahamas, of which 1,955 are active.

The reopening of the Baha Mar and Atlantis resorts are considered critical to the country emerging from the COVID-19 economic crisis.
